Lifting ourselves by lifting other

It is easy to write off these two words “lifting others” as a cliche. We hear about it every day, but we rarely pay attention to what it means. Lifting others means putting the needs of other people before our own needs. Supporting people’s dreams, showing loving acts to people, helping people overcome their challenges and fears. We lift others by showing random acts of kindness. One of the things I learned growing up was that showing love and care is supposed to be a key cog in my everyday activity. Humans are so engrossed these days with their personal life and ambitions that they lose sight of the whole reason for our existence here. Humanity demands we rise above selfishness and help others. By doing so, we are creating an environment filled with fewer problems and viable enough for us to thrive. There is a sense of fulfillment that comes with people sharing a story or an experience with someone who genuinely cares. It helps them heal

Why should you lift others?

Lifting others is an act of kindness that you should imbibe always. The big question is why should we lift others

It distracts you from your issues

Lifting others gives us the outlet to distance ourselves from our problems at least temporarily. When you are invested in lifting others, you give yourself a breath from your problems. You get out of your trouble by lifting others from their own, even if it happens in the shortest possible time frame.

It gives you a fresh perspective

Lifting others offers you a fresh perspective of life. You will see things you have genuinely never thought existed. You will take a break from the vicious cycle of seeing things in your way. You get to listen to people’s experiences and challenges. This offers you an aspect of life that you can never get by not lifting others. In lifting other people, you might even come across clues that will be of help to you too.

It reminds you to be grateful

Lifting others gives you a feeling of self-worth. It shows that you are not depleted, it shows you still have something to offer to humanity. Many people want a shoulder to lean on while they cry, people that will pull them out of a particular situation, they want people that will change their story, if you find yourself doing either of the above, you will notice that it evokes gratitude; a feeling that never stops.

What are the things you can do in order to lift others?

Practice Kindness

Little things make a difference. That young kid that you saw looking stranded on the road, you can approach him to ask what is wrong. Be intentional about that smile and greeting. Give generously, never be impatient. Show interest in people. You are lifting others by being kind.

Volunteer to mentor and listen to others

Look around in your community, join groups and organizations committed to lifting people. Contribute your quota to these organizations. Participate actively. Most importantly volunteer to act as a mentor to people. Inspire and listen to people. You can volunteer to Gramefame Foundation.

Tell stories

The importance of storytelling cannot be understated. Share your story, compile other people’s stories, teach people how to tell their stories. Share your motivations, share your thoughts on burning issues. Many people face similar situations, they will find solace in your story. It can help them heal to a certain extent. Make your pain count by helping others learn from your experience.
